As we inch closer to the end of 2020, we must take a moment to step back and reflect on the roller coaster of a year we have had. Disruption has been at the forefront of 2020 forcing businesses to quickly pivot and adapt to new and unfamiliar forms of normalcy. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic will not miraculously disappear once the clock strikes midnight on January 1st 2021. This new reality - this digital transformation - is for the long haul.

Gartner recently unveiled its Top Strategic Technology Trends for 2021  - a thought-provoking list of technology-driven concepts very relevant to the current times.

One particular trend that stood out was the concept of Anywhere Operations.

The term ‘working remote’ may come to mind, but this would go way beyond that. The model of Anywhere Operations speaks to the overall experience of being able to work from virtually anywhere – properly and responsibly with the appropriate security measures in place for all devices, include secure mobility management practices. This solution would also involve leveraging the right collaboration and productivity tools, the appropriate infrastructure (hyperconverged, desktop/application virtualization), and having documented governance policies and best practices in place.

Another noteworthy trend was Cybersecurity Mesh – a highly scalable and elastic way for any individual or device to manage and control security measures no matter where you are. This concept is not necessarily new, but the events of 2020 have certainly accelerated its importance as more businesses look to boost their digital business going forward.
