Software Defined Storage (SDS) has been a hot topic with IT professionals for quite some time. But now, we have now moved beyond a simple level of curiosity and interest, to frequent and active deployments of SDS solutions across all industries and organizations of all sizes. 

The data that enterprises are acquiring, managing, and storing is growing exponentially mainly due to unstructured data – emails, spreadsheets, text, graphics, video, audio – to ensure compliance, improve productivity, and create new revenue. These data streams are exploding at an estimated annual growth rate of 80 percent as per Gartner’s IT Market Clock for Storage from 2011. IDC also expects the amount of storage capacity deployed to store the explosion of new content will increase sixfold in the next three years (stated in a 2012), exacerbating the challenges around data management, protection, and preservation.

2015 has arrived and it is time to focus on the upcoming IT Trends. There are many opinions related to what CIOs will focus on in 2015 and what critical challenges they are facing in Enterprise IT. What stands out for me is the evolution of their role within their organizations and their growing contribution to evolving the business and using IT more effectively to gain competitive advantage. The impact of the digital world and the imperative created by customer needs are at the epicentre of organizations that want to be successful in today’s digital world. 

It's hard to believe that 2015 is right around the corner! Of course, this means new forecasts on trends to expect in the new year. I came across an interesting read that I wanted to share: In 2015, ComputerWorld predicts Enterprise investments in storage to increase by 36%. "In 2015 IT will take on an increasingly important role growing revenue, profitability, enhancing competitiveness and getting to know customers. Of these, growing revenue is predicted to be where IT senior management leads line-of-business leaders."
