On Sunday June 12, Sentia sponsored and participated in the 2022 Mental Health in Motion Ride, Walk and Run event hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association of York and Simcoe.
After a long two-year hiatus, we were delighted to be back in-person with other like-minded individuals in support of a worthy cause. The rain had threatened to put a ‘damper’ on the event (pun intended), but it fortunately held off for the entire duration of the ride, walk and run.
Putting focus on mental health initiatives is crucial – even more so as we deal with the after effects of the pandemic. According to Angus Reid, one in three Canadians struggle with their mental health post-pandemic and according to the CAMH, by the time Canadians reach the age of 40, 1 in 2 have, or have had some type of mental illness. Sentia is proud to be a contributing member in bringing awareness to the importance of mental health and in the investment of programs that provide much-needed support to those in need.
Giving a Voice to Youth in Need
Our team, dubbed The Sentia Sprinters, surpassed our own company fundraising goal thanks to our generous donors. (Thank you!)
Funds raised went towards the MOBYSS (Mobile York South Simcoe) - Ontario’s first and only mobile health clinic for youth ages 12 to 25. MOBYSS, pictured in the header of this post, travels to where youth are in the York Region & South Simcoe area, offering free support for mental, physical health, and sexual health support. With access to a nurse practitioner, youth mental health worker, and peer support specialist, it creates a warm, comforting and safe environment with a no-judgement atmosphere. This service is completely complimentary, and no health card of referral is needed. For more information, please visit their site here.
We did a mixture of the cycling, running, and walking. Below we have some members from our technical team on the cycling route. Go Robin and Christopher!
Ultimately the end goal was to bring the community together in support of a very important cause – and we were delighted to be contributing member of it.
