Trends in Enterprise Technology – 2013 and looking to 2014

By: Roger Osmond   Categories:Industry Insights

It’s that time of the year – to reflect on the past and the trends that emerged, and look forward to those that show promise next year.

Gartner announced in October its Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2014. They also pointed out that many industries and organizations face accelerating pressure for fundamental business transformation including embracing digitalization in order to survive and stay competitive.

"Transformation remains a critically important phenomenon across all industries. Many industries will face intense challenges in 2014 and beyond, and will have no choice but to radically change their established business models," said Kimberly Harris-Ferrante, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. "Last year saw many industry decision-makers focusing on adopting new technologies to improve business operations by addressing developments such as the Nexus of Forces, the convergence of social, mobile, cloud.

Today, by contrast, leaders are significantly shifting their business models and processes. The necessity to adopt digital business models transcends all industry verticals, and its diverse impacts are creating business opportunities that were not possible in the past. Enterprises must respond immediately in order to build the right business and IT road map for future market demands."

IT is also becoming decentralized to address these challenges – IT will become critical for all business functions, and as a result, IT will work more closely with individual business units.

IT is no longer just about the IT function. Instead, IT has become the catalyst for the next phase of innovation in personal and competitive business ecosystems.

So if anyone said that enterprise IT is boring, well new tech ideas are shaking things up like never before, so it's time to consider the long-term implications for your organization.

The trends I am most interested in are:

Hybrid Cloud and IT as Service Broker

Cloud/Client Architecture

Software Defined Anything

These are the areas where we see our customers being most active and moreover, where new technology will impact positively on improvement of their Data Center’s efficiency and their business.

Take a look my video here to hear more about Sentia’s approach to address our customer’s challenges.

If you’d like to investigate how to transform your IT and look at what solutions would best suit your organization’s objectives, you are welcome to email me or give us a call at 1-866-610-8489.

2014 is around the corner and it’s a great time to make plans to boost your business and increase your competitive edge.
